We started our day off working hard at learning tubs. Some
of us practiced counting and graphing, other were working with manipulates and
breaking numbers apart, and others were being creative with Plasticine, pipe-cleaners
and popsicle sticks (still a current favourite) and some worked hard at writing
about what they did during the crazy snow storm on the weekend.
Our task today was to break apart the number 7 into its number pairs
using blocks. We started with Ms. Taylor showing us different number of blocks
and then covering some of them. We had to figure out how many were hiding and
how we knew. To practice this skill we started by breaking up 7. We used green and blue blocks to make 7 in
different ways. Some examples are 5 and 2, 7 and 0, and 3 and 4. Ask your child
what pairs they found!
Ms. Taylor read us a book called Rosie Revere, Engineer. It was all about building new things out of old things, and not giving up. Rosie figured out she could learn from her flops and they were not failures.
