Fabulous Friday

Today we had a fabulous day in kindergarten. To start our morning, we continued to talk about measurement and how we can measure. To start we read the book, Length, that talked about the difference between length and height. We then practiced how to use non-standard units (such as blocks, paperclips, hands or feet) to measure items. Mrs. Patten showed us how to measure using blocks. We know to put the blocks right up against each other and to measure from one end to the other end. Using our new knowledge, we used blocks to measure the pets we are learning about. After measuring, we used comparison sentences to talk about the pets.

A snake is longer than a lizard.
A fish is shorter than a bunny.
A dog is longer than a hamster.

We also practiced attaching the correct numeral to the number of blocks we counted for each animals length.

We referred to our drawing and colouring rubric today to finish off our pet storyboards. We added a few more details and then coloured our pictures. We can't wait to share them with you.

After music, we went outside for a winter walk (finally it was nice enough). We went to visit our tree and looked for both signs of winter and signs of animals living outdoors. We heard some small birds and saw evidence that jack rabbits had been in the area. We also noticed our tree was without leaves but know from earlier that it is just resting and will come back in Spring.

How to extend my learning at home:
- Use some non-standard items to measure things around your house

Reminders:
Our Celebration of Learning is next Wednesday, March 13th.

Kind regards,
Mrs. Patten
