Thumbs up Thursday

We had a wonderful day of learning in kindergarten. We began our day by doing our last two letters in the alphabet Yy and Zz. We are now all letter experts and will be continuing to concentrate on using the letters and letters sounds to hear the beginning, middle and end sounds in words that we are writing. We had a lot of time today to do some work on our pet inquiry.  We began by creating a Venn Diagram of pets and not pets. We have lots of knowledge now about wild animals and how they get their needs met on their own. Pets needs are met by their owners. We also realized that some animals are both pets and wild animals and had a great discussion about that.

After recognizing the pets we could get, Mrs. Patten explained that 8 pets are TOO many for our classroom so we have each become a pet expert to research different things about those pets. This will help us decide which pets are good for our classroom. We began today by looking at pictures and sharing our ideas about what the pets have such as big ears, whiskers, long tails or claws.

How to extend my child's learning at home:
- practice the letters and letter sounds as you see letters in your daily activities
- talk about the pets you may have at home and what kinds of things they can do, they have, the are and they need

Reminders:
There is NO school for AM kindergarten tomorrow, Friday, February 22nd.

Kind regards,
Mrs. Patten
