Thumbs Up Thursday

Today we used our observation skills to talk about snow and ice and how these changes affect our own actions.  We read the book Snow and talked about some of the things we know about snow and winter.  While outside for a fresh air break, we collected some snow and ice to bring back into the classroom.  We made some observations and asked questions about what we saw. Some ideas included:

- Will it melt in the classroom?
- it is so cold
- it is melting because it is warm in here
- mine is sticking together because it is melting and becoming sticky
- there is water from the dipping water

After making our observations, we practiced our scientific drawings adding details of the dirt, grass and water we saw. We did a great job adding as many details as we could.

During snack, we took part in a sharing circle to discuss as the weather gets colder, what do we do the keep warm? We had lots of ideas to share such as winter clothing, sweaters, hanging out inside, being beside a fire and drinking hot chocolate. We then completed an initial drawing our idea. Over the next few weeks we will continue to work on adding details to our drawings to show more of our ideas through pictures.
