It was a quiet Monday in kindergarten! We began our day with new learning tubs focused on mathematics, story-telling and fine motor practice. After our tubs, we explored a new tool for mathematics in the classroom called a number line. Mrs. Patten gave us the numbers 1-10 and we had the chance to place them on a number line on our table. We talked about what the number line might mean and how we could use it. Then Mrs. Patten challenged some of us by removing a number from the number line to see if we could figure out which number it was. This activity is supporting our understanding of counting and stable order (that the order of words never changes). We will continue to work more with the number line in coming weeks.
We also read a fun book called Bear Gets Sick. This story began some more discussion around our topic of helping others. We talked about the ways that the friends in the story helped bear when he was sick. To help refresh our thinking, we then talked about some of the ways that we help others in the classroom as well.
Reminders:
- I have mail! Please check your child's backpack for 2 notices. One of the notices is regarding a presentation we will be having next week. Please sign and send back in the money as soon as possible.
-Thursday, November 15 is Jersey Day at New Brighton School. Students are welcome to wear any jersey they would like that day.
We finished off the day in P.E. with Ms. Nanavaty.
Kind regards,
Mrs. Patten
