Thumbs Up Thursday

Today we enjoyed a number of kindergarten activities. To begin with, we practiced some of our mathematic skills through a few activities. We played, I have...who has... where we each had to recognize the number of dots on our card and shout it out when it was our turn. We are looking forward to playing this game again in order to increase our subitizing speed. We then completed a counting activities where we finger painted red poppies in the poppy field. This was similar to our pumpkin patch math and all of the students improved their accuracy of counting. Great work!

We also discussed how Remembrance Day is about being thankful for living in a safe and happy country. This conversation related well to our work on needs and wants as we talked about how we are able to have a safe home here. We started to discuss our question, If given the chance, how can we help others? To talk about this today, Mrs. Patten gave us a sheet of foods and we had to work together with a partner to discuss which three we might give to someone who didn't have food. We had some great ideas and will continue with this work.

Thanks to our top banana, Owin for sharing his special stuffy today.  This round of top banana is now complete.  Thanks to all families for supporting us in sharing about ourselves.  For the next round of top banana, students will be chosen each morning. They will not need to share anything, instead they will help the teacher for the day (being the line leader, helping set out materials etc.).

Reminders:
There is no school for AM kindergarten tomorrow (Friday). You are welcome to attend the Remembrance Day assembly with your children if you wish.

Please continue to send in items for the Veterans' Food Bank.

Please watch for an important notice coming home on Tuesday. We will be having a presentation and parents need to read, sign and return the form.

Kind regards,
Mrs. Patten
