We got lots done today in kindergarten. This morning we had free morning tubs where we got to choose our learning activity. We enjoyed choosing some of our favourite things. After morning tubs we were introduced to Mrs. Patten's friend, Brainy! Brainy is a brain who likes to challenge the kindergarten class with math problems. This morning he asked, "I am thinking of a number that comes after the number 4. What could my number be?" The students did a great job figuring out all of the numbers that could be the answer.
Before our fresh air break, we practiced a guided drawing of an umbrella again. The students then got to experiment with a new art material, pastels to colour their umbrella and create an AB pattern. We then filled in an open number line with raindrops to practice our counting.
After music, we read the story Bear Wants More. This story had the same character from our other book this week so we again discussed how bears friends helped him.
Some of our ideas included:
- They gave him different kinds of food because he was hungry- Sadie
- They made him food since he was hungry- Owin
- He ate fish from the pond. His friends helped him - Hannah
- He found grass for himself- Bennett
- He got stuck because he ate too much food. His friends helped him get out -Braelyn
How to extend my learning at home:
- Try out this math problem: Brainy is thinking of a number that comes after 6. What could his number be?
- Talk about the ways that your help each other in your family
Reminders:
With the changes in weather, it is important that students come prepared to go outside. We still like to have a fresh air break when we can so mittens, toques, boots and snowpants are good items to have at school for the unpredictable weather. Thanks for your cooperation with this.
Kind regards,
Mrs. Patten
