Happy Monday!

Happy Monday!  We had another busy day in kindergarten. This morning we began new morning tubes focussed on creating patterns.  We are working on building, copying and extending patterns with two or three parts. We had the chance to do a sharing circle this morning as well and met our first Top Banana, Sadie.

In recognition of Orange Shirt Day, we read the story When We Were Alone. In the story, a young girl helps tend her grandmother's garden, she begins to notice things that make her curious.  Why does grandmother have long, braided hair and beautifully coloured clothing? Why doe she speak another language and spend so much time with her family? As she asks her grandmother about these things, she is told about life in a residential school a long time ago, where all these things were taken away.We discussed how these differences make us special and we should celebrate our differences. We then created our own orange shirts that included ourselves, family and something that makes us unique such as playing soccer, hiking in the mountains or a special toy.

We also did some of the following activities:

We had gym outside today - Tristan
I shared my medal today - Sadie
We wore orange today - Karis
We had library - Quinn

Reminder: We have began our first round of Top Banana.  Please refer to the list (sent home at conferences) for your child's day to share.  Tomorrow's top banana is Karis.

Kind Regards,
Mrs. Patten
