We had a lot to do today but the students did a thumbs up job of getting everything finished. After our morning tubs this morning, we learned a new poem called, My Puppy. We looked for our popcorn words I, a, and in the poem and then practiced it a few times. After the poem, we spent a lot of our morning discussing pets versus wildlife. We talked about the differences between these types of animals and then we sorted and glued our own pictures in our pet research books. As we have been focussing on identifying letters in words, we each got feedback from Mrs. Patten on our next steps in writing. We used this feedback to write the different animals that we have glued into our books.
Mrs. Patten took us to the library as many of us had not had a chance to get books this week. After library, we talked about the number 5 and practiced printing and representing this number. We are starting to use language such as 3 and 2 make 5. We finished off our day reading the book, If you Give a Moose a Muffin. This is a circle story that arrives at the same place it started. Ask me about my favourite part.
Thanks for our top banana, Mekaeel for sharing his ideal pet, a dog. Monday's top banana is Hannah.
How to support my child's learning at home:
- The students have "homework" to talk with you about the best and worst pets they can think of and their reasons why. These ideas will be shared with Mr. Stockton next week.
- Talk about the difference between pets and wildlife. You can use the images below to help.
Reminders:
There is NO school tomorrow, February 1st.
Have a great long weekend.
Kind regards,
Mrs. Patten
